A Conversation with Ed Yong, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author of "An Immense World"

A Thrilling Tour of Non-Human Perception

- The New York Times

Sep 12, 2023

TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

Join us in a conversation with author Ed Yong, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist from The Atlantic and one of the world’s most talented science writers. His newest book, AN IMMENSE WORLD, made the most “Best Of” lists than any other piece of nonfiction in 2022!

Funny and suffused with the joy of discovery, An Immense World takes readers on a tour of the radically different ways that animals perceive the world, reminding us of what Marcel Proust called “the only true voyage . . . not to visit strange lands, but to possess other eyes.”

The Earth literally teems with sounds and vibrations, smells and tastes, sights and textures, electric and magnetic fields. But every kind of animal (including us) is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble and perceives but a tiny sliver of our immense world. A crocodile’s scaly face is as sensitive as a lover’s fingertips and the eyes of a giant squid evolved to see sparkling whales. Readers will learn what bees see in flowers, what songbirds hear in their tunes, and what dogs smell on the street.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with live music and a cash bar. The event begins at 7 p.m. and includes time for audience questions. Each ticket comes with a signed, softcover copy of An Immense World (or you can opt for a two-ticket package with one book - see below). Ed will sign books before the event and personalize them after the stage conversation.

One ticket with one book is $42.50 or $32.50. Two tickets and one book are $68 or $48. (For the 2 ticket/1 book option, please call the box office at 231-941-8082. It is not available online.)
